The Slovak Republic offers CHF60,000 to the WTO development programmes

11 December 2008

For the first time, the Slovak Republic donated CHF60,000 to the Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF) for 2008.

This donation will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to better adapt their practices and laws to WTO rules and disciplines, improve the implementation of their obligations and enhance the exercise of their membership rights.

“I welcome this donation which illustrates the Slovak Republic commitment to help developing countries integrate in the global economy and take better advantage of the multilateral trading system” declared WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.

The Slovak Republic Permanent Representative to the WTO, Ms. Ľubica Nejezchlebová, stated “This first contribution reflects our strong support for developing countries to improve their trading and economic capacity, as trade is a major tool for development and poverty reduction.”
